Finding My Truth in the Small Moments of Spring

I have a personal practice of finding connection—both with people and with nature. This connection isn’t just about appreciating beauty; it’s a key part of how I regulate my nervous system.

For me, it goes even deeper. Nature reminds me of my personal Truth (week 6 of our Zapped to Zen mindfulness program). It’s a grounding force that brings me back to the perfection within imperfection.

This past week, mindfulness in nature helped me find stability—even while engaging in social justice efforts, worrying about the personal impact of politics, and supporting a loved one through a difficult time.

My crocuses have emerged, scattering themselves throughout my yard. Their vibrant tenacity in such tiny form reminds me that no act is too small to make a difference. My eyes smile with their wisdom.

My daffodils have burst forth, embodying spring’s fresh energy and a deep “will to life.” They bring back memories of my wedding (where they filled my bouquet) and remind me how my strong marriage supports me. And, in the toughest times, I always return to mindfulness of beauty—and there they were!

A walk at Sharon Woods with my family (well, those in town!) was a heart hug. Traversing muddy trails reminded me of my own resilience—cleverly finding my way through challenges, even if I slog and get a little stuck in the mud at times!

Each of these moments is a choice—a choice to be mindfully present, to self-regulate, and to embrace the season.

Spring is MY season. How about you? Do you find deeper meaning in small moments? Do you feel them?
