As an artist, Jan specializes in abstract expressionistic mixed media paintings that evolve from life impressions and experiences which she has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She has been represented in galleries across the United States. Groenemann’s work is at once powerful and spiritual. Several years ago Jan moved from the Foundry Arts Centre where she was a resident artist for five years into a newly completed garden studio, where you can see her work by appointment.
Jan has facilitated workshops on mixed media painting and creativity and personal growth throughout the country. Her book, Through the Inner Eye: Awakening to the Creative Spirit, was published in 1994 by Islewest Publishing, Dubuque, IA. In 2018 Jan published her first novel: WOMAN ALONE: One Woman’s Journey through the Murky and Magical. In 2023 she published Creativity as a Life Path (a second book on creativity and personal growth). In 2024 her second novel, A Thousand Ways to Kiss the Earth, was published.
In addition to numerous awards for her paintings, she is also an award-winning poet, a recipient of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and the Arty Award for Individual Accomplishment in the Arts (St. Charles County Arts Council). Jan’s work has been published in Complete Woman Magazine, New Thought Journal, Personal Excellence, and American Artist’s Artists Sketchbook.
A Creativity Coach for more than 25 years, Groenemann became a certified Life Coach in 2008. Her coaching focus is on helping clients determine what is or is not working in their lives, designing the life they truly want to live, then guiding them as they make the steps to create the life they want.
Most recently, in addition to writing and painting Jan has joined with her daughter-in-law, Renee, a licensed therapist and certified Yoga instructor, to create Groenemann Growth Resources. Under this umbrella, Jan and Renee are facilitating workshops to introduce a new concept in Life Coaching called “Inner Eye Life Coaching.” Inner Eye incorporates into the life coaching modality two ancient practices, Yoga and the Creative Process, for the purpose of powerful life change.
“I discovered in my own life that the creative process is powerful and ongoing. We are always creating with every thought, choice, and action, and most specifically we are creating our own lives. My way of giving back is to help others create lives that are vibrant and fulfilling as they learn ways to live to their full potential.”
This newest series of paintings titled “A Thousand Ways to Kiss the Earth” spans a wide range of styles, for “I kiss the earth in varied ways.” I have opened up to allow each painting to take on the style that it dictates. I was surprised to find that several are rather realistic, some impressionistic, and others my abstract expressionistic style. This series was done in conjunction with my latest novel, A Thousand Ways to Kiss the Earth, which focuses among other themes on the dilemma of climate change and our sacred connection to nature. Each painting has hidden within a symbolic kiss.”

Jan’s Newest Series:
A Thousand Ways To
Kiss The Earth
This new series of mixed media paintings symbolizes Jan’s love of and deep connection with nature, concern for the health of our planet, and nature as Jan’s creative inspiration. Each painting has hidden somewhere within “a kiss” symbolizing Jan’s love for “All That Is.”
This work was done in companion with the writing of her recently published novel A Thousand Ways to Kiss the Earth (2024)
